Example-5 LAN for hospital and school (from newspaper article)-the merit of short-term construction work and low cost-

Infrared Communication LAN was reported on newspapers (August 1 Nikkei / August 2 Nikkei Business Daily). According to the article the system is developed by Showa Electric Wire & Cable Company, Limited, and Infrared Communication LAN can be constructed with short-term construction work and low cost.

The system has the following characteristics and is reported as the system that the ceiling mounted HUB covers the area of 4m radius and about 40 personal computers can be connected.

œ It is low cost because of the deletion of cable wiring work.
œ Medical instrument does not make the fault operation because Infrared is used instead of radio wave.
œ The information leakage is not concerned.

The general purpose of deployment is as follows.

œ Primary school, Secondary school
Internet connection is the pressing need. The cable communication needs the construction work of LAN cable in the ceiling and under the floor of schoolhouse and it takes long work term and high price.
œ University
For the establishment of laboratory of language study the wireless LAN is much suitable.
œ Hospital
Hospital is the place where the safety and the security are extremely needed against the electromagnetic fault operation of medical instrument and the information leakage of chart. Infrared Communication is well received because the medical instrument does not make the fault operation and the information leakage is not concerned. The demand of Infrared Communication will be increased in future from the viewpoint of the exchange of charts between doctors in separate hospital sites or medical sections.
